Dr. Terry D. King
Life is precious and so are you.
Never miss a good chance to shut up. - Cowboy Wisdom
Physician, Pioneer, Inventor, Author,
Entrepreneur, Cattleman
Raised on a ranch in Texas by dedicated parents Terry learned the value of hard work and a job well done. He excelled in school and spent summers with his uncle in Louisiana, learning early that the food in Louisiana was special and that it was home to lush, tree studded, rolling green hills with countless rivers and streams.
After high school, Terry obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. From there, he joined the military, serving as a Major in the Air Force during the Vietnam war.
After leaving the service in 1972, Terry became a permanent resident of Louisiana and joined the Ochsner Clinic, making enormous contributions to catheter-based cardiology and pediatric medicine.

And, putting it mildly, that is just the start; what follows is a wondrous life full of friends, family, and a spring of teachable moments or "cowboy wisdom" as Terry puts it. The sort of adventurous life that can only come from a man who walks his path with never-ending curiosity. You can read more about Terry, his family and his trail-blazing ways in his entertaining and enlightening memoir, Hearts & Heifers.

In 2021, Dr. King was honored to be chosen a Louisiana Legend, given to the best and brightest of Louisiana's sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves in a variety of disciplines and have brought honor to the state.
It's not about how good you are,
it is about how good you want to be. - Cowboy Wisdom
In this impassioned autobiography, veteran pediatrician Terry King chronicles his adventurous life, starting with his humble beginnings in 1938, when he was born needing resuscitation via an emergency ice bath. From there, the anecdotes flow freely and plentifully as the author regales readers with heartfelt and often humorous tales of his childhood, the military, his medical odyssey and beyond.
There is a palpable passion to King’s prose and an immutable sense of pride permeating every page of his memoir. His ultimate purpose in writing the book was to “thank and honor the many who have impacted my life.” Buoyed by his Christian faith and credence in cowboy wisdom, both of which are fondly and consistently referenced throughout the memoir, King possesses a venturesome spirit and a fierce dedication to his homeland that come across beautifully. Fans of stories about cowboys and native Texans will discover much to enjoy and admire in King’s chronology — written with his wife, Nancy King— of a life lived to its fullest.
